Sinus and Allergies
December 4, 2019
The winter season is upon us here in Sydney. Winter sinus issues and colds are raging through the schools, and Spring, the time of wattle flowers and allergies, is just around the corner! So for all those cold and allergy sufferers, there are some simple things you can do to help your self this winter.
There are six acupressure points you can hold which will relieve the pain enormously! To hold all six points at once requires a bit of finger dexterity, but if it is too tricky just hold two either side of the face together and do two at a time.
The points you are holding are called Large Intestine 20, Stomach 2 and Bladder 2, and are on both sides of your face and should be held simultaneously, one hand on each side. You’re sort of aiming for just outside the nostril, just below the eye (there is a small indentation in the bone there—that’s the point), and the inner end of the eyebrow.
The direction you press in is also important. The points outside the nostrils (LI20), should be pressed diagonally upward, as if you’re aiming for your eye on the opposite side. The points below the eye (St 2), should be pressed downward toward the mouth. The ones on the eyebrow (Bl 2) , should be pressed upward toward the top of the head. I find using the index finger on the eyebrows, ring finger or middle finger under the eyes, and pinkie by the nose works well.
Hold the points with a firm touch but it should not be painful. Hold them for either 5 minutes or until you can feel a faint pulsing under your finger tips. The pulsing should be the same through all the points and it should be slow and even…then you know they are in balance with each other.
So, this year beat the colds and allergies with acupressure! You might look a bit odd doing it but you’ll be the one laughing when you don’t get any sinus issues this year!!
